Where to eat after your mountain bike ride in Ainsa? Updated for 2021

The original blog from July 30, 2019 has been updated for 2021 because we discovered more great places to eat.

Mountain biking makes you hungry, so where should you eat in and around Ainsa? During or after the ride you can to treat yourself to the food the area has to offer. If you don’t eat meat you will have a hard time in Ainsa. It is hard to eat vegetarian here let alone vegan, maybe a good topic for a future blog.

Of course you can have pizza in La Tea or in La Creperia, for great tapas with a beer go to the Sie7e bar (all open the whole year round) and you should definitely should have un menu (around 15 euro, they come with a bottle of wine) in one of the restaurants but let me share you my selection of places to eat in Ainsa and around.

Not all restaurants are open the full year, so please check their website or Facebook page for the latest openings hours.

El Kanguro Truchero -  Bielsa

address : HU-V-6402, S/N, 22350 Bielsa, Huesca

Let me start with one of my favourite places to eat. It is about 35 minutes drive from Ainsa in the beginning of the Pineta Valley in Bielsa. It is worth the ride. And if you are going peak riding on the Comodoto (ZA-03) this place is your well deserved  treat at the end of an amazing day on the bike.

El Kanguro Truchero is a very tiny restaurant with maybe 6 tables inside, but with a really nice shadow rich terrace. They combine local dishes with Asian food and it is of really good quality for a small price. In general this region of Spain is very cheap when you want to eat out.

Casa Falceto - Coscojuela de Sorbrarbe

address : Carretera del mesón, 18, 22395 Coscojuela de Sobrarbe, Huesca

This restaurant is situated in the beautiful village Coscojuela 10 minutes from Ainsa.  You are eating in a beautiful restored old village house. They serve local dishes with an excellent selection of wines. This is one of the more expensive restaurants in the area, but if you are visiting from the city or northern Europe it is still very well priced.

As in a lot of restaurants here I would recommended having a starter like a salad or something with vegetables, because often de main dish just comes with meat or fish and potatoes or fries. In summer Casa Falsetto is open from Tuesday till Sunday.  In the other months they open from Friday till Sunday. Make sure you make a reservation on time, Falsetto is very popular.

L’Alfil - Ainsa

address: Barrio la Iglesia, 5, 22330 Aínsa, Huesca

L’alfil only opens in high season (easter and summer). It is not more then a small terrace in the little alley behind the Ainsa town-hall in the old town. They serve all the local food and the traditional Spanish tapas. I really like the relaxed atmosphere of this little alley terrace. The waiters are all very friendly. I suggest you take a variation of tapas a few at a time and enjoy a long summer evening here.

Asador Avenida - Boltaña

address: Av. de Ordesa, 35, 22340 Boltaña, Huesca

This is you lunchspot when you are mountain biking around Boltaña the following trails: La Coasta Doble (ZZ-010), Peñas Cinglas y Coda Sartén (ZZ-005) or Aínsa y Boltaña ZL-003. Asador Avenida has nothing special but just good proper food for a small price and quick service. It is one of my stops when I am passing on my mountain bike through Boltaña. It is always open.

Dos Rios -  Ainsa

address: Av. Central, 4, 22330 Aínsa, Huesca

The restaurant and bar of Dos Rios are one of the few places in the area that have a modern and contemporary feel about them. There are not only traditional dishes on the menu, but you can also get a proper hamburger here. The traditional local dishes come in a modern version. They really stand out from the other restaurant in and around Aínsa. In high season I would recommend to make reservation.

Mora de Nuei - Ainsa

This alberque has the typical medieval feeling as you can find more in and around Ainsa. The low arched seelings lead you in a narrow space that opens up at the end towards a wide terrace. The terrace of Mora de Nuei has great views over de hills south of Ainsa and the Ara river. The food is a great mix of the best local food, with some fusion cooking. You can get your standard cheese platter but also asian wraps if you want to try something else. Enjoy the views while you indulge in the great food.

Nice to know:

In Spain people eat late. Restaurant kitchens are usually open until 16:00 and open again at 20:30 or 21:00. If your are hungry have a tapas somewhere before you go to eat out.

In the Pyrenees they eat a lot of lamb (cordero), rabbit (conejo) and pig (cerdo) and they´ll eat everything of the animal.

Try at least to eat a longaniza de Graus, this is a local sausage from the village of Graus, 45 minutes form Ainsa. It is on almost every menu in the area.

If you are not in to blood sausage or intestine meat, than don’t order morcilla or

And don’t forget to drink the local Tronzadora beer.
